There are No Men on Board
FAQ
No, there are no men on board. Yes, it is just the two of us. You’re right, I’m not serious. We keep a boy in the lazarette for when we need to do really manly things such as change the oil, fix the engine, or pull up the anchor.
Yes, we have an alcohol stove. It is, in fact, true that we still have our eyebrows. Thank you for noticing.
Yes, Grace and I are still friends. No, we are not really sick of each other yet. We have a lot of dance parties, and, I told you, we have that boy in the lazarette we can talk to when we get bored of each other.
How do we stay warm? We don’t. We’re always cold. Once I wore the same three layers of clothes for six days straight.
What do we eat? We go through the same process everyone else goes through. “What do you want to eat for dinner?” “I don’t care, what do you want to eat for dinner?” We usually end up eating soup.
Our boat isn’t named Ellipse. Or Elvis (although I guess that would have been cool). It’s Elpis. The Spirit of Hope. Our engine is named Chartreuse.
What’s the boat trip like? I don’t know how to explain it. Our home moves every day. We are learning how little we really need. We are learning that most people are good people. We are cold. We are happy.
