Emily grew up junior sailing out of Crescent Sail Yacht Club in metro-Detroit and continued her sailing career at the University of Michigan. She graduated from U of M with a B.A. in English, a history minor, and a fear of fourteen-hour road trips in university vans to regattas. After college, she spent ten months working for a non-profit that placed her in a Chicago public school to help high school students pass their math class. Despite recurring nightmares about factoring quadratic equations, she actually loves working with her students, and she plans to continue in this line of work after the boat trip. In her free time, she enjoys eating chocolate chip cookies, watching the episodes of The O.C. where Marissa and Ryan are still dating, and talking about Harry Potter.

Grace grew up in metro-Detroit, spending her winters landlocked and her summers on the water, doing junior sailing (and any other possible sailing) at Crescent Sail Yacht Club, and coaching for the program while she was in college. She attended Oakland University, earning her bachelor’s in biology, while also working for housing, playing water polo, taking part in clubs, and occasionally sleeping. Post-university was spent working at a physical therapy clinic and coaching sailing (this is the last summer I'm doing this, I swear!), and figuring out how to become a boat mechanic in preparation for the trip. If she isn't sailing, she can typically be found hammocking through the woods up north or playing with her cat.
