THE BOAT
Elpis is a Columbia 8.7, the floating/ racing/ cruising/ cottage of the Pytell family. She is widely considered a very stable, reliable, and comfortable yacht. She sports a wineglass shaped transom for greater seaworthiness and a high freeboard with a tall cabin top; though it may be a tad goofy looking, the 6 ft. headroom down below is completely worth it. She is perfect for any configuration of crew, from single- or double-handing to a record 19 junior sailors (they were all half-sized and wearing lifejackets).

THE NAME:
Elpis, from Greek mythology, is the spirit of hope- specifically the spirit that stayed behind to help mankind when all the contents of Pandora's Box were released. Hope is one of the most powerful forces in the world, and when there is nothing else left, there is still hope.
